Nom nom nom....

Besides being meat free my diet is pretty cliché for a college kid!

Friday: I happily rolled out of bed on my classless Friday at 12:00pm and enjoyed 2 Kellog's Pop-Tarts and a large cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. This is easy and pretty routine for me. Then at 3:00pm I needed some motivation and energy to start homework, so naturally I threw back a can of Monster. Healthy. Since it was cold, at 6:00pm for dinner I stayed in my dorm and microwaved a pack of Ramen. Then at around 8:00pm I enjoyed a bag of ACT II popcorn while watching The King’s Speech. Also I drank water periodically all day long from my water bottle which I filled from my sink.

Saturday: This day started off very similar to the one before it, with 2 Kellog's Pop-Tarts and a large cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee. However, this time it was on the go and at about 5:45am because I was headed off to work. Before I left my dorm I stashed a Monster in my backpack which I enjoyed as soon as I started to feel worn out, at noon. At 1:00pm I helped myself to a small plate of spaghetti, once slice of pizza (I think Pizza Hut?), and Dixie cup of Simply Orange orange juice courtesy of a buffet at my workplace. I chose to eat these because they were essentially the only meatless options available. For dinner I ordered Papa John's pizza in my dorm. It had made a pretty satisfactory lunch and I was feeling lazy so ordering seemed like a fairly easy option. Plus I had Flex Dine to spend. I ate four slices and drank water because I’m too broke to afford anything else.

Sunday: At 9:00am, once again I started of my day with, you guessed it, coffee and Pop-Tarts! I can’t help it. This breakfast wakes me up and is what I am used too. For lunch, at 12:30pm, I actually ventured out with my friends to the dining hall. This food log had been making my feel pretty self conscious and gross in regards to my eating habits, so I went for a healthier option. Salad. One plate of spinach leaves, a few tomatoes, 4 or 5 olives, just a few croutons, and no dressing. With it I had a very large glass of 2% milk and one apple. Then I forgot to eat dinner because I was too busy doing homework. Oops. But I did have a bag of ACT II popcorn at 7:00pm while watching Inception.

Wow. Honestly, before this food log I was well aware that I was not a healthy eater, but I had no idea just how awful I really was. Almost everything I ate I chose because it was easy. Pop-Tarts I could grab and then go and Ramen let me stay in my dorm and shielded me from the cold. Now that I see how lazy and unhealthy I’ve been though, maybe I’ll start making at least a little effort in seeking out some better options. This exercise has really given me some food for thought (HA!).

TFL-TIme for lunch

Friday:
11:00 am- as much cinnamon Cheerios that can fit into the bow, 2 cups plus 4 strawberries cut up on top w/ Cub brand skim milk until 3 or 4 O's spill over, probably 1/2 cup. Coffee w/ 2 Splenda packets.

1:00- Running errands, next stop post office, ugh, so I knowingly prepare for the wait in the Target isle and get a Snickers and a Diet A&W root beer. I am a prime candidate for those Snickers commercials because I am a crabby snag when my blood sugar is low and I have already been kicked out a post office once in my life- long story but I was probably hungary then too!

2:30 pm- Simek's brand vegetable lasagna, two 3 inch squares + Aquafina water bottle

7:30 pm- 1/3 of Large movie theatre popcorn w/ salt and butter (or chemical compound that tastes and looks like melted butter) with the largest diet coke ever!! probably 40Oz.

10:00 Stomach ache like always from theatre popcorn. Answer, more food! Whole wheat Archer Farm bread with Cub brand Cheddar cheese 2 oz. , 1 roma tomato & Helman's mayo (2 Tbs.) Big glass of tap water.

12:30 am- Tooooo Much Diet Coke!! Can't sleep. I meander down to the kitchen and grab a handful of Kmart brand Choc. covered raisins on the counter probably 1/3 cup. Bedside water bottle slurps throughout 2 more hours of Netflix movies.

Saturday
9:00am- Cinnamon Cherrios with Skim milk. Coffee w/ 2 splenda packets.

11:00am- Refill coffee

12:30- 2 Morning Star brand garden veggie burgers pan seared in 1 Tbs butter. Served on toasted Cub brand english muffin with Heinz 57 sauce and mayo mixture. Fancy sauce has nothing on this tangy combo! One 12 oz diet coke.

6:00 Spaghetti consisting of garden chunk Ragu sauce and Cub brand noodles with Kraft Parmesean sprinkle on top. I'm guessing 2 1/2 cups noodle with 1 cup sauce. Desert is canned peaches in light syrup with fresh strawberries mixed in, 1 Cup. 1 Aquafina bottle water

11:00 SNL ritual microwave popcorn. For instant food I still managed to burn it so my sister and I shared maybe 2 cups of salvageable buttered yumminess. 1 Aquafina bottle water.

12:00 I have salty taste in my mouth so i have 1 oatmeal raisin cookie before heading up to bed.

Sunday
Rare chance to sleep in. Usually up to church w/ Gma but sister has my car. wake up at 12:30.
12:45 wake up ritual....coffee w/ 2 Splenda + 1 slice whole wheat bread and 1 Tbs."natural" Jiff peanut butter (no hyd. oil of HFCS)

2:45 Green Mill with aunt, cousin and Gma. Water w/ lemon wedge, side salad with 2 very small cherry tomatoes, 2 slices of cucumbers random berg lettuce with vague spinach hints throughout. Ranch dressing in 2 sauce cups without even having to ask! probably 3-4 Tbs dressing which was way too much. I ordered the Parmesean walleye sandwich on toasted ciabatta. It came with garlic mayo and had no vegetable embellishments I was hungary so I ate it up. I noticed it was fried by the glistening sheen of the tips of the fish that stuck out the ends of my sandwich. I was full about 3/4 of the way but my family eats slow and I managed to nibble it down until it was gone. Plus I opted for no fries, psychologically knowing I shoudln't get them and this blog was probably the only thing in my moral way of not just getting them with the thoughts of only maybe having a few. I have to admit that my plate looked empty with the bland looking sandwich with no garnishment.

This is food blog up to now, I really don't feel like eating anything else today but out of bordum I will have to cross through the kitchen to take my dog out and then since I am lazy and tired I will hock him up and have him pee on the chain which means I stand at the fridge and will pull out something to eat in the 3 min I am standing there. I am being clairvoyant and am calling it now. 9 pm 2 Clausen pickles and another handful of choc. covered raisins.

I specifically refrained from the headings breakfast, lunch and dinner because even on the weekends my eating doesn't follow any normal pattern. During the week I normally don't eat breakfast and then eat around 11 only to hold off eating until I get home wither at 6 or at 8:30. I will snack all day sometime on healthy things or wait too long and have a blood sugar meltdown and spring for a sugary treat. I learned my lesson earlier this week and left the coffee at home and 4:30 my head was about to explode and I physically had to pit stop into Starbucks for a small brew to delivery me back to the caffeine wizard I have apparently sold my sanity to.

Typical Weekend Grub

3 tablespoons of Sunmaid raisins

2 tablespoons Market Pantry brown sugar

2 cups of Target Brand milk

3 cups of Peace Coffee

un repas pour les rois---aka da bears

Saturday…
disclaimer: Saturday was a particularly unhealthy day for me as far as food intake goes, I had very few goals set to accomplish. One thing I usually manage to do each day is drink a ton of water, this is something I've done since highschool…and I like to think it offsets the terrible things I put in my body, or at least it rushes them along through digestion or something.

10:00 am

2 Cups of coffee:
approx 8 packets of sugar
2 tbsp half& half

2 Grilled Cheese & Egg Sandwiches:
3 tbsp butter (at least)
2 slices of American processed cheese ($2=50 slices? there was never a choice)
4 slices of 12 oat wheat bread
2 eggs

3 Clementines

5 cups of water (at least)
-------------------------------------------------------------
2 pm

3 pieces of leftover pizza (Maximus from Pizza Luce)
2-3 clementines (I have 3 cartons of these things, note the reoccurrence)
2 cups trail mix
1-2 cups water

7 pm

Dinner at Bulldog:
Cheeseburger

1 jamison whiskey

Met friend in Dinkytown and drawn in by smell.

http://scanwiches.com/post/3488407064/van-horn-sandwich-shop-strawberry-jelly

I was inspired by Scanwiches the previous night, I honestly forgot these existed.

Cheapness, novelty. Underwhelming given that varied texture is crucial to my sandwich enjoyment.

Trusted our Server. Mistake.

Never been before, couldn’t finish.

Thinking about seafood in the summer.

Finally took time to cook something. Used a grill pan and 550F oven.

Tenderloin is the ultimate cheap, versatile, and healthy meat. That and rice can be made to taste like anything for next to nothing.

Spammity Spam! Glorious Spam!

Thursday 4/3 –

7:30 AM, Breakfast at home:

-1 Fuji apple
-Earl Grey tea, black
-1 plain Bagel with peanut butter (peanuts, salt; nuts to that hydrogenated oil business.)
-Water

This is what my breakfast usually looks like.

1:00 PM, Lunch at home:

-4 Clementines
-Black beans & rice with Mrs. Renfro’s extra hot Habanero Mango salsa, cheddar cheese, and Tostitos Hint of Lime tortilla chips
-Coffee, black (Caribou Fair-trade French roast)
-Water

A typical lunch at home. Relatively inexpensive, easy-to-make, and tasty.

8:00 PM, Dinner at Sushi Tango:

-Anago Sashimi (rice, eel)
-Caterpillar Maki (rice, smoked eel, cucumber, avocado, nori)
-California Maki (rice, crab, avocado, cucumber, nori, smelt roe)
-Crunchy Maki (Shrimp tempura, rice, masago, panko, nori, seaweed powder, spicy mayo)
-Water

I don't eat a whole lot of meat, but sushi is a guilty pleasure.  Plus, this was business-related: a post contract-signing celebratory/commiserative dinner.  I was celebrating because I get to eat AND pay rent for a while, they were lamenting about the numbers on the contract.  Sometimes clients with bigger contracts, especially for large built-ins like this one (a solid mahogany wet bar, mahogany mantel piece, and solid cherry radiator grilles throughout their house.  This will be some fancy-ass shit!), just need a little damage control to go along with the contract.  A little reassurance that this is, in fact, what they want and how much they ought to spend in order to get it.

Friday 4/4-

8:00 AM, Breakfast at home:

-1 banana
-1 plain bagel with peanut butter (see yesterday’s breakfast)
-Coffee, black (Caribou Fair-trade French roast)
-Water

Nearly identical to what I had for breakfast yesterday and what I’ll have tomorrow.  What can I say? I’m a creature of habit.

12:00, Lunch at Mesa Pizza:

-1 slice of Guacamole Burrito pizza (black beans, rice, guacamole, cheddar cheese, sour cream)
-Water

Every Friday, I have a standing pizza date with an old friend.  I also needed to talk to him about a work trade that I’m doing with him.  I’m building him and his wife an as-yet-to-be-determined piece of furniture, and he is helping me learn how to write good AI code for a swarm-robotics idea that I have.

7:00 PM, Dinner at home:

-Butternut squash gnocci with almond pesto ($55/lb for pine nuts!? Aww naw hell naw, $5/lb for almonds.)  - both homemade
-Salad (Fresh Express bagged salad, tomatoes, carrots)
-Bread (Rainbow bakery French bread)
-Water

I have a couple of garden beds in my yard, and I grew prolific amounts of basil last year.  When I was picking the last of it out of the garden in the fall, my neighbor popped his head over the fence, took a look at the giant pile and quipped, “Dude, your weed is totally bunk. No one’s gonna buy that.”  Ha.  Anyhow, I ate a ton, gave a second ton away, and pureed the remaining tons with a little olive oil and froze them.  Six months later and I’m eating homemade pesto!

10 PM, Snack at home:

-Chocolate Twizzlers
-Homemade Ginger brew.

Making your own soda is surprisingly easy.  The bubbles can be a bit trickier, however.  This particular bottle was flat. Bummer, but it still tasted good.

Exciting Food Journal

Titled this Exciting Food Journal because this weekend's meals are much more varied and delicious than a usual weekend because my best friend was in town; a typical weekend is more meals at home. My typical Tu-Th I have class all day and chug OJ, a glass of milk, and a glass of water at bfast with my vitamin, eat two Uncrustabes for lunch and a large pasta-based dinner at home.

Friday

8:00a Wake up late rushing to work, chug a glass of organic skim milk while my Cafe du Monde coffee drips though my Kurig into my steel coffee mug. Grab FiberOne toaster strudels and run to catch the bus, typical of working mornings Fri-Mon. I eat these things because they are super fast and kick start my morning; I try to eat organic and control portion size while still being nutritious, plus I am a sugar-o-holic and must have sugar for every meal.

12:30p Two hand fulls Organic Girl brand spinach with cold organic chicken pieces and Lucini Italia Cherry Balsamic & Rosemary Vinaigrette (best dressing EVER). Salad eaten twice a week while at babysitting; lucky they have the kinds of food I love! Eat this because it is super healthy and makes me feel good.

5:00p Two slices of leftover Punch Pizza, margarita style. Yum! Go out maybe twice a week, always eat half my meal and eat the leftovers the next night. Ate 1/3 box of leftover Mac&Cheese, extra hungry because went for a 4 mi. run when I got home from babysitting.
Naturally like to eat dinner around 5:00 or 6:00p.

8:00p Small homemade sugar cookie w blue icing and three cups of organic, low-caffeine raspberry tea. Very regular- have this most nights. Super sugar addict, what can I say, and hot tea while I read for three/four hours a night (English major) is a must.

Saturday

10:00a Eat two large pancakes with my best friend/roommate Rachel has made. Buttermilk with strawberries, bananas and real maple syrup! Have a cup of organic green tea and a glass of organic skim milk. Typical weekend bfast. Love the sugar, love the bitterness of the tea and how healthy it is. Always eat my Flintstone vitamin.

2:00p Cleaning my house and get hungry. Eat 1/3 of the still leftover Mac&Cheese and large glass of from concentrate OJ. Go running and don't eat again even though I'm hungry because going out w friend for dinner and then drinking and don't want the extra calories.

7:00p Eat at Chile's with bffs. Have salmon fillet with loaded potatoes- cheese, chives, bacon, and cinnamon apples. Eat bit less than half of my meal. Not quite full but know I'll be drinking so don't eat as much as I want.

9:00-11:00p Have two Light Mike's Hards because they are less calories, and love them because I can't taste any alcohol. Have one shot of Patron.

12:00a-2:00a Have two shots of tequila, don't know what kind, and a Miller's Light. Mostly drink these because we are at a too-loud club and I want to be having more fun than I am. When we get home I eat three bites of my leftover dinner since I've been drinking and dancing, and drink two glasses of water to try and stave off a morning hangover. Usually go out every couple weeks during the school year and have a little less than this much alcohol.

Sunday

11:00a Woke up late because stayed up late partying. Go to the Uptown Diner (First time SO GOOD) tiny bit hungover and very hungry. Get Eggs Florentine which is tomatoes, spinach and eggs topped with hollendaise sauce. Steal extra tomatoes and mushrooms from my not-healthnut friends. Remove the English Muffins from the bottom because I don't want the extra carbs. Eat half and save the rest for bfast tomorrow. Eaten because it is my favorite, and especially because of the guilt over the poison I drink last night. Have two cups of coffee and a glass of apple juice.

3:00p Drink four glasses of water, dehydrated from drinking last night and from my 4 mi. run today. Have a glass of milk and pack two Uncrustables for lunch at work. Eaten because fast.

6:00p Will probably eat Angle hair pasta with butter for dinner with cinnamon sugar apples for dessert and drink a glass of milk. Probably will have a cookie and several cups of raspberry tea.
