"He who defines the terms controls the debate, and by extension, public opinion..."
-Ryan Sorba, Young Conservatives of California
A friend of mine posted this on facebook. To say the video, the focus of my analysis, offends my moral sensibilities is a vast understatement. Although this is tangent to our current discussion topics, I thought it fit in interestingly as evidence to the power of words, especially in the realm of politics/religion.
"To give them this term, that is grounded in an identity....we are conceding a premise, that it is an identity," and, "You are your body, your body is pro-creative by natural design," are the significant aspects of Ryan Sorba's argument against the use of the word 'gay'. In replacement, he proposes the terms"same sex attraction", "same sex intercourse" and "sodomy".
I feel this youtube video of his reception at the Conservative Political Action Conference helps contextualize my previous video. And, in my opinion, is amusing.

Nice, Grace. This is a sort of rhetoric case study all by itself.
